My name is Alexander Chalucov. I was born in the former Leningrad, in the
former USSR in 1977. I have lived most of my conscious life in the capital
of Bulgaria, the city of Sofia. Currently I reside in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
I am white, male, unmarried and none of these will change in foreseeable
future :)
Names, in general, are not just sounds but have some meaning too.
Alexander (in Greek) means protector of men. I inherit the name from my grand-grandfather,
whose name was, as you may guess, Alexander too.
Chalucov is a transformation of the ancient word Chalik, which means (this time in
Bulgarian) steel. Let me note that fulfilling my name with sense (any of the parts)
is not among my 'first ten' goals. It's not among the 'first hundred' either. You get
the idea;)
Sentinel is an alias I sometimes use, like Alex Le'Chuck. I don't remember where
did sentinel come from (not from the "The Matrix" movie for sure, it's from before),
but Alex Le'Chuck is a variation on the name of one of the heroes in Monkey Island.
And it resembles my real name, too. I've never played this game by the way.
When I was a little bit younger than now I wanted to design digital circuits. It
seemed very fascinating. So I decided to study in the Electron Systems College, Sofia.
It was the best educational institution that could exist on Earth. Of course at
some point I figured out that designing ICs, at lest in Bulgaria, is not the best
thing to do. But in ElSys I was able to learn lots of other stuff about electronics,
computers and communications, giving me a very good background in these areas.
I've graduated from the
Technical University of Sofia
[*], telecommunications major.
I always wanted to study something AI-related, but this desire never
materialized.
For good or bad, my current profession (software engineering) requires constant
self-education so I suppose this will never end for me. Fortunately, there are
no more tests and marks - the only real test is what one can actually do :)
